Welcome 1L students!

This guide highlights various resources, services, and spaces supporting your work as a law student.

Using the Library

When do you have access to the library?

You can access the library 24/7 using your Penn State ID card. You must have your card on weekends and evenings to enter the library. Make sure you take it with you if you leave the library during those times.

The library doors are usually open during the week from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. On the weekends and after 5 p.m. on weekdays, the doors are closed, whether or not someone is working at the front desk.

When is the library staffed?

  • Monday-Thursday: 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Friday: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Saturday: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Sunday: noon to 7 p.m.

Check the library’s website for information about breaks and holidays.

Can you eat or drink in the library?

You can have small snacks and drinks in closed containers. We ask that you remove food trash from the library and report spills. Please be mindful of others; the library is not cleaned regularly. Food can get gross in the trashcans. This is especially true in study rooms and on weekends.

Can you talk in the library?

Speak softly and keep conversations short. Unlike some libraries, we don’t have certain sections reserved for quiet and others for talking. You can book a group study room to talk to your classmates.
